helping you find
your new favorite ‘fits
All bodies change over time, and our styles and needs and desires evolve, too. So if you wake up one morning with tons of clothes but nothing to wear, that’s completely normal and natural. You’ve changed, and your wardrobe hasn’t kept up with you!
Not to worry: Here on the thrifty side of the street, we’re not spending $300 on a single T-shirt. And we don’t have to keep everything we try forever. When you can find quality gently used clothing for a fraction of its new value, the risk-to-rewards odds are in your favor. You don’t need a giant budget or any special permission to try new things, change your mind, and rotate pieces into and out of your wardrobe on the regular.
And you won’t be ruining the planet either, because when you buy secondhand, you’re making use of things that have already been created and might otherwise end up in a landfill.
You also might be surprised at the range of styles and clever combinations that are possible when you look beyond a single season or store and into the great, wide thriftoverse: the commingled closets of myriad other women. You’ll stumble into combinations that have never existed in fashion before. And you’re bound to surprise even yourself with what you find and love. And that’s when your personal style comes shining through.
Whether you love or hate the hunt, think of me as your personal thrift fairy and style whisperer. I can help you:
replenish, adapt, or shed pieces from your closet that no longer work
find preloved pieces that spark joy and show your true colors
tweak almost-perfect garments so they hug, hang, lift, or flow just the way you want them to
pull together shapes, styles, colors, patterns, and textures that come alive on your body, just as it is
track down rare unicorn pieces in your size
create looks you love for special occasions
combine fresh finds with old faves to reveal a style that’s uniquely yours
Simply book a style chat, style session, or closet cleanout with me.
styling, tailored to you
Style Chat
A quick 30-minute video chat to pin down sizing and silhouette, troubleshoot a shopping, styling or fit issue, or workshop a look for a special event. I can help you make the most of what you’ve already got, learn what to brake for when shopping, and find more joy when getting dressed.
Styling Session
A thick and juicy 90 minutes of one-on-one styling—in person if you’re local to Des Moines, or virtually from both our closets if you’re not. We’ll clear confusion, assess style goals and fit struggles, and pull together looks you love. Plus, you’ll get $75 in Curvy Cash to use at or after your session on new-to-you finds (or a Thrift Magic Mystery Bag) from Curvy Closet.
Closet Audit
A fun and focused two-hour session to evaluate your closet and whip your wardrobe into shape. This is great if you’re changing sizes or styles or have a closet full of things you just don’t wear. Whether we’re in person in Des Moines or doing our closet magic via video, we’ll identify gems to keep, duds to ditch, and gaps to fill. And we’ll end with a plan for clearing out any garments that no longer serve you.

Most items $4-$40
Spring, summer, and fall popup sales of my best plus- and mid-size clothing finds from recent thrift, vintage, estate, and resale adventures—all laundered and mended, curated by color and style, and ready to wear. Almost everything is curve-friendly and passed a fit check on me—a short and busty 18. And I rack, tag, and style everything up in my backyard and garage. PLUS: Cold drinks, good tunes, a fitting room with a fan, and complimentary style help while you shop. I’ve done the thrifting and sifting so you don’t have to.! And it’s so much more affordable (and interesting and colorful) compared to retail shopping.
The next one is Aug. 7-8, 2026 and I’ll likely have one more by mid-October, when the temps start to fall.

Starting at $15
Sometimes a few snips and stitches can save your britches.
I don’t do major reconstruction or promise fabric miracles, but in many cases I can help you revive and rework failing faves and make off-the-rack items feel more made-for-you.
This includes: hemming pants, custom-cutting and fraying jeans and T-shirts, shortening and/or reattaching straps, fixing bent zipper pulls, taking in dress side seams, stretching (aka blocking) knitwear for improved fit, de-pilling sweaters and coats, adding darts, tacking down tops that gape, sewing in floating pasties in swimwear, neatly and visibly mending holes.
I also can troubleshoot stubborn stains, repair sweater pulls, replace buttons, restring elastic bracelets, stretch leather shoes and boots, and gently clean and condition many purses and leather shoes.
By special request or as a natural add-on to purchases that need minor amendment.

$40 per person + any purchases
Get in, gorgeous. We’re going thrifting! Gather two to four of your besties, and I’ll take you on a two-hour group thrift tour of some of my favorite spots in and around Des Moines.
There will be personal styling on the fly and a themed thrift try-on challenge we’ll agree on before we set out. (Think: looks inspired by animals, flowers, nature, colors, foods, moods, music, art, movies, books, eras, events, or occasions. And custom themes are welcome, too—1980s JC Penney family photo shoot looks, for example—with or without a budget limit.)
Store purchases are totally optional. And a fun time? It’s all but guaranteed. This is a great way to celebrate a birthday or have a memorable, action-based hang with pals or family.
By appointment only. Shoot me an email if you want to group thrift with me.

Free (bring something to trade)
You got good stuff that doesn’t fit. I got stuff I never wear. Let’s trade our stuff! Bring up to 5 items of gently used plus-size women’s clothing (sizes 14/16 or L to 4X+), shoes (sizes 9-12 or in wide widths), purses or other accessories to swap. You’ll get a ticket for each item you bring. And you can trade each ticket for a new-to-you item brought by someone else.
Your old fave could be just what someone else was looking for — and vice versa! If you don’t have something to trade, you can buy a ticket. One ticket = $5 = One swap.
Untraded pieces will be responsibly donated to nonprofit-based shops and cash ticket proceeds will be used to help stock the new LDEI Greater Des Moines-sponsored community fridge behind Scoops by Beth in Highland Park.
